Signature

Official documents only have value with an original signature. But if you want to use Dutch documents abroad, the signature must be legalized. This process ensures that the signature is authentic and proves this to foreign governments.

Certainty about the authenticity of your signature
Legalization of your signature means that a notary establishes that you signed the document yourself. As a result, there is no misunderstanding about the authenticity of your signature and there is much less chance of misuse. The legalization of signatures is part of the notarial services of Visa Service Desk.

In practice, you sign in the presence of one of our civil-law notaries or notarial assistants. You also show your valid proof of identity. This can be a passport, a Dutch driver's license, an identity card or a foreign nationals document. The notary checks your signature and identification, and then records in a statement that you personally signed in the presence of the notary or employee. You then leave the legalized statement and a copy of your proof of identity with us.

Authentication of copies
Another part of our notarial services is the certification of one or more "true" copies of official documents. This ensures that the contents of a copy correspond to the original document.
